Abstract: RNA-interference is described as an evolutionary conserved, host defense mechanism against viral infection. Up to now only minor effort was taken to investigate the relevance of this mechanism for clearance of the SARS-CoV-2 RNA virus in infected individuals. Small circulating RNAs were investigated from serum samples of COVID-19 patients. Small RNAs were analyzed by high throughput sequencing from five mild cases, five severe cases and two control samples. Here, we profile the plasma of patients with mild and severe COVID-19 for the presence of small circulating RNAs during active and convalescene using high throughput sequencing. As result the presence of SARS-CoV-2 derived small RNAs in serum samples of mild and severe COVID-19 cases is described.
