Abstract: In the context of the TROST project, 34 Solanum tuberosum ssp tuberosum cultivars, predominantly optimized for starch production were subjected to 14 independent pot or field trials to quantify the interaction between genotype and water supply (control, drought) on starch content and fresh weight of tubers at harvest. Plants in pot trials were grown from in vitro cuttings in 4liter-pots on peat-based horticultural substrate under controlled climate conditions (Potsdam-Golm) or in a rainout shelter (Groß Lüsewitz) in NE Germany. Field trials were conducted on three sites in Northern Germany in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Drought stress was applied by reducing the amount of irrigation water to a fixed percentage of the optimal water supply. The reduction was performed by increasing the time intervals between irrigations rather than by changing the irrigation volume. The yield data sets are complemented by data sets containing climate data (temperature, radiation, rain volume) and information on the cultivation times. Further experimental details, cultivar names and data analysis are provided in the paper 'Assessment of drought tolerance and its potential yield penalty in potato' in Functional Plant Biology, 2015, 42, 655–667, http://dx.doi.org/10.1071/FP15013.
