Abstract: In a drought stress trial, 64 Solanum tuberosum ssp tuberosum genotypes from a population segregating for drought tolerance were phenotyped with a Planteye(Phenospex)-LIDAR (light detection and ranging) system. The population had been characterized for drought tolerance based on the relative tuber starch yield in different container systems and field trials under typical Central European drought scenarios (K. Köhl (2018-12-11): Selection and validation experiment comparing phenotypic and marker-assisted selection for drought tolerance in Solanum tuberosum ssp. tuberosum. DOI:10.5447/ipk/2020/18). Drought stress (S) was imposed by reducing the total volume of irrigation to 50 % of the optimal volume (C). For the LIDAR measurements, plants were cultivated under naturally fluctuating climate conditions in a polytunnel. In vitro propagated cuttings were planted in bigbags with 30 l peat-based substrate on 9.04.2015 or 13.04 2016. The measurements were performed between 22 and 61 days after planting (DFP) in 2015 and between 5 and 75 DFP in 2016. The useful range of measurements was restricted by inaccurate plant detection at the beginning and lodging and intermingling of shoot after flowering.
