Abstract: Aim of the study VALDIS Trost was to compare the efficiency of marker-assisted selection for drought tolerance in Solanum tuberosum to a classic phenotypic selection. For that purpose we creasted a population of 200 lines segregating for tolerance. A classic phenotypic subpopulation (SP1 PPt ) was selected for superior tolerance based on tuber starch yield data from three trials. Two populations with superior (SP2 = MPt) and inferior (SP3 = MPs) tolerance were selected based on drought tolerance predicted with a LASSO based model (DOI 10.1111/pbi.12840) from metabolite and transcript levels in leaf samples from two trials (Sprenger et al. These subpopulations were phenotyped for yield and drought tolerance in ten multi-environment pot and field trials. The meteorological characterisation allows the generalisation of the results to agronomically relevant drought-scenarios. The data set contains the pedigree data, experimental design data, the original data for meteorological and phenotypic data including harvest data from all experiments as well as derived climate parameter and drought tolerance estimates.
